ARRL ELECTION RESULT:SSB QST ARL ARLB049 ARLB049Vice Director election results announced in three ARRL divisions. Ballots were counted today at ARRL Headquarters in contested races for vice director in three ARRL divisions for the 2002-2005 term. The Committee of Tellers has certified the results of these contested elections. In the Pacific Division incumbent Vice Director Bob Vallio, W6RGG, of Castro Valley, California--a retiree--garnered 1924 votes to beat back a challenge from physician Gerald D. Griffin, K6MD, of Pacific Grove, California. Griffin polled 1225 votes. A ham since 1952, Vallio, 65, was SM and, previously, Section Communications Manager of the East Bay Section and is completing his second year as Pacific Division Vice Director. In the Southeastern Division, Georgia SM and retired TV traffic coordinator Nelson E. ''Sandy'' Donahue, W4RU, of Atlanta, Georgia, outpolled West Central Florida Assistant Section Manager and computer programmer-analyst Paul J. Toth, NA4AR, of Seminole, Florida, 2783 to 2305. They were contending for the seat being vacated by Vice Director Evelyn Gauzens, W4WYR, who decided not to seek a new term after 22 years of service. A frequent hamfest and convention attendee, Donahue, 56, is in his third term as Georgia SM and has been an Assistant Director since the mid-1980s. He's been a ham for more than 40 years. In the Southwestern Division, San Diego Section Manager and train operator Tuck Miller, NZ6T, of National City, California, defeated electrical engineer Edward J. ''Ned'' Stearns, AA7A, of Scottsdale, Arizona. The vote was 2485 to 2208. Miller thus gains the vice director's position being vacated by Art Goddard, W6XD, who ran unopposed for director upon the retirement of Fried Heyn, WA6WZO. Heyn has served as director since 1984. A ham since 1991, Miller, 48, has served as San Diego SM since 1998 and is active in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. Vallio, Donahue and Miller all are ARRL Life Members. In addition to Goddard, those unopposed for directors' seats were incumbents Jim Maxwell, W6CF, in the Pacific Division; Walt Stinson, W0CP, in the Rocky Mountain Division, Frank Butler, W4RH, in the Southeastern Division and Coy Day, N5OK, in the West Gulf Division. Vice directors' positions that went unchallenged in this election cycle were incumbents Warren G. ''Rev'' Morton, WS7W, in the Rocky Mountain Division; and David Woolweaver, K5RAV, in the West Gulf Division. All unopposed candidates were declared elected. New terms for all successful candidates begin at noon January 1, 2002, and run for three years.
Minutes of the Amateur Radio Council of Arizona MeetingOctober 20, 2001 at Tucson, AZ
Called to order at 11:02 AM. By Chairman Charlie Ellis, W6PNM.
Treasurer's Report: Chris N7PVL reported on the income and out flow of funds during the month for Tuthill expenses. This was the profit sharing to the clubs that had volunteers working at Tuthill. As of this date all checks were in the mail or had been received by the clubs. Moved by N7KKO, Seconded by KA6LSK, Motion passed. Secretary's Report: Bob KA6LSL reported that it was going to be a learning curve to get all the information in the minutes and Charlie requested that the distributed hard copy minutes be revised. The Tuthill materials that Chris had presented as hard copy at Kingman were struck from the minutes. Motion to approve as amended by Dave KE7QF, Seconded by Carolyn KA6LSK. Motion passed. Charlie W6PNM made comments about his goals for this year and that is to gain 100% support from all the clubs in Arizona. We should be in contact with all the clubs in the state. One of the problems is that delegates come to the meeting and forget that they are representing a club. The reports must get back to the clubs. He would like that each delegate get information from his or her clubs to bring back to ARCA. Contact with the clubs around the state has to be improved. A question keeps coming "why can't ARCA do this or why can't ARCA do that". Charlie's simple response is if ARCA is just the Board of Directors then we can't do a heck of a lot. Rather than the amateurs coming with that kind of a question, come with the question of how cam ARCA do this and I am willing to lead the charge to get the get the project started. He stated that he couldn't recall the last time a volunteer was turned down. Vice Chairman's report: Mike KD7GSR reported on letter from ARRL that Director Hein had approved the Tuthill hamfest for 2002 as ARRL event. He also spoke about advertising for Tuthill for this next year to be better and the donations of prizes was down. The cost of prizes was much more than last year and the ticket sales were not much less than last year. He also spoke about the fire lanes that had been blocked by someone and with the incident that the fire department had to get in. Next year if any blocking is done the vehicle would be towed away and Charlie asked if MCSO member could assist to keep lanes open. Charlie spoke about getting the prize list done soon so that tickets could be printed before Spring Fest. He said that the topic of having clubs sell them early. Mike suggested that a contest between the clubs with a H.T. prize to the club that sells the most tickets. Charlie asked for suggestions on an incentive program for tickets sales. Dave suggested that the prize list be posted on the web site so that all could get incentive to purchase tickets. Charlie spoke about a mail message that our web site wasn't fancy and should be done by a professional. The discussion was that that site was to get information out. ARRL Report: Mail message from Fried Heyn asking for support of efforts of ARRL about CC&R request to FCC. Charlie suggested that ARCA support and educate hams in Arizona on CC&R's. Frequency Coordination Report: Bob KA6LSL - Charlie noted that the Coordination Chair was not present. The 420 Coordinator met with Charlie and I before this meeting and stated that he had written the letter that was discussed at Tuthill and Kingman. The letter was turned to the Coordination Chair and never sent out. The 420 Coordinator has resigned and will be turning over all materials. Hopefully within the next few months all can be worked out and Charlie stated that he hoped that we have more information by next meeting. Bob stated that the coordination body is a subcommittee of the ARCA organization and suggested that ARCA address this over the next few months. Web Page: Chris N7PVL is in charge of the web page and if you want something put on it you have to submit it. She needs input and information from clubs. Old Business: A. Report on Kingman Fallfest: A complete report of the event with financial statement was provided and accepted by ARCA. B. IRS status as 501c3, the cost will be about $500.00 and the CPA suggested some word changes in the Bylaws to get the proper phrases. It will require documentation and some paperwork every year. This has come about due to the current thinking in the state is that a portion of the amateur vanity license fee would be able to be channeled to ARCA. We would send up a complete separate foundation to use it to support amateur radio in the schools in the state. The possibility of scholarships for individual members of clubs that are affiliated with ARCA.
C. Motion on Grant application submitted at Kingman meeting for support of school radio clubs. New Business: A. Grant application request from Arizona Desert Aire Waves dated 10/20/01. General purpose of grant is for a new printer for doing ARCA publications & Tuthill printing. Amount requested is $600.00. This is to be acted on at the December meeting. B. Notice from county parks department about Ft. Tuthill rates for food concessionaires that are non-profit organizations. Dave KE7QF will attend and he has concerns about who would be food handlers and that his concerns as to health issues. Calendar of upcoming events:
Respectfully submitted, P.S. For all the club representatives or officers that got the notice. In the meeting notice I sent out I had a typo in my own call. Just one key over but did make a difference.
