The ARRL Field Day is coming (as I write this column) June 24 and 25. W7ASC plans to operate (2D AZ) with special certificates for the kids and additional promotions of Ham Radio: ARRL FD shirts, Ham flyers (the ARRL "Hello" campaign), etc. We plan to have a Video Kiosk set up to show the ARRL "Ham Radio Today" video. More on FD 2006 in the column next month. Hope everyone has a good time for Field Day!
The General license class is scheduled to start July 15th at the Arizona Science Center Boardroom "A". The class will be for 7 Saturdays with Morse Code included. If you are interested give me a call at the number below. Look for info and flyers at HRO. The next Tech class is planned to start at MCC October 7th.
I reported last time that we had all of the IBM computers up and ECHOLINK was running. Woops, we need to reinstall the Satellite programs and ECHOLINK. Going form WIN-2000 to XP does not always compute!
We are now on the Summer Hours 10AM to 3PM. School is out. More kids than ever are coming to ASC. This means more wear and tear (especially tear!) on the equipment and code keys. One of our straight keys was smashed twice in one day! Springs, screws, ball-bearings, and other parts were all over the place. Roger, W9NCQ suggested at the Board meeting that we modify the plastic box protecting the code keys so a kid's finger (not a hand) goes in. This should keep the code key from being hammered.
We continue to need volunteers for W7ASC! Spread the word at your Ham Club. Call Bob at 480-961-1109 and volunteer now. A Volunteer sign-up page is available at www.w7asc.org
