Rick Checketts, KA0KZB, gave a presentation on the W7ASC move.  The May 1, 2008 teardown date has been postponed, possibly to the end of May.  More later as we find out the Science Center plans.  When we do close down we will have to move the equipment to a storage area until the new Shack is in place and finished.  Also a great opportunity to clean up the Ham Shack.  We have stuff from 10 years ago! Guess it isn't too different from most Ham Shacks.  Rick presented a bare bones new setup for the Improved W7ASC shack:

  • 2 remote TS 570S transceivers for HF and digital modes
  • 1 remote TS 790 transceiver satellite, VHF/UHF, and IRLP
  • 3 networked computers (Can also do Echolink) with keyboards and mice
  • 1 server plus 19"-21" flat-panel monitor, keyboard, and mouse
  • 2 guest stations with mics for operator and guest with a 19"-21" monitor for guest and 2 19"-21" monitors for operator.  (6 monitors total)
  • Multiple audio cards for each computer
  • 1 50" plus flat-screen monitor for back of shack.
  • Set up Individual log-in accounts for operators

We plan to have the W7ASC Shack (or at least W7ASC in operation) for Field Day June 28th - 29th.  Rick is working with the Science Center for a location, more later as plans develop.  Our "Summer Hours" (10:00AM - 3:00PM) start Memorial Day Monday May 26th and go through Labor Day, Monday September 1st.  Of course this will depend on the Ham Shack tear-down, so we will likely be closed for at lest 8 weeks in the summer.

Our Tech License class at MCC is wrapping up with 16 students left out of 19 signing up.  The VE Test is scheduled for 10AM April 19th at MCC.  I'll report on the results in the next ADAW column.  Thanks to Dave Morrill N7TWT and his VE team for running the test session.

We are still looking for more W7ASC volunteers.  Spread the word at your Ham Club.  Call 480-961-1109 and volunteer now.  A Volunteer sign-up page is available at www.w7asc.org
