July 2009 W7ASC Column

For this month's column we have the W7ASC Field Day report from John KC7KML:
=================

Thanks to the Arizona Science Center, Judy Lightfoot and all those who provided materials, staff, and tables for Field Day.  ASC manned a table in the lobby with the "Amateur Radio Today" video, large posters, and activities based around "Ham Radio."

Those in the Harkens Ham Shack were: Jean - W4CIH, Tom - AD7PM, David - W7PMD, and John - KC7KML.  We had a very large crowd.  Our activities included talking about "Ham Radio," doing Morse Code with guests with certificates, and getting 30 kids on the air with "Rubber Duckies" and special Field Day Cards printed by ASC.  Even got a little Field Day in there with four HF contacts and two VHF simplex contacts.  73s.com "Hambrief TV" was there and filmed us at work.  Check out Episode 35 at:  http://hambrief.tv Also, the "QSO Radio Show" people asked us all about W7ASC/CARL and the Arizona Science Center Harkins Ham Shack." The Field Day interviews should be up as an RSS feed at:  http://www.tedrandall.com/rss/rss.xml or you can check it out through iTunes podcast.

Reminder that the next General Amateur License class will start Saturday, July 25th 2009, 10AM to 1:00PM at the Arizona Science Center (600 E. Washington St, downtown Phoenix) in Boardroom "A."  Give me a call or email if you are interested.

And a final note [the same one I always end with] we are still looking for W7ASC volunteers for the New Ham Shack.  The "Summer Hours" (10:00AM-3:00PM) are in effect through to Labor Day 9/7.  Spread the word at your Ham Club.  Call 480-961-1109 and volunteer now.  We have a CARL PPT Presentation available (operators are standing by) that can be shown to your club.  Contact me (see below) to set it up.
