The President's Corner

The President's Corner (March)

First I would like to thank everyone that had a part in the Lost Dutchman Marathon and the Club’s special event station W7W for their participation in these events. As a Club our goals should be to find activities that our members will want to participate in and to volunteer for as much community service that your personal schedule will allow. As Hams we should always try to promote our hobby to the community in general. Not only to bring in new Hams but also to help the community to realize the valuable services we are able to provide.

In our February meeting Tom K8PMW showed us how cheaply a quality 2 meter J pole antenna could be made. For our March meeting Louis (call unknown at this time) will show us how to build a wire antenna for the HF bands. Towers and beams are nice but these guys will show us how cheaply and quickly you can get on the air without spending a lot of money other than on the radio itself.

In April we are planning to have a Club picnic. A committee of volunteers are trying to get everything arranged so we can have a fun outdoor event before the weather gets too HOT. They are hoping to have the picnic an April 26th.

Right now nothing is planned for May but don’t forget Field Day on June 28th and 29th. We should be going to Oak Flats Campground east of Superior. This is the same place we went last year. The shade of the trees, the lower temps and being only 1 hour from downtown Mesa makes it a good place for the Club to meet.

Keep tuned to the Nets to get the latest info on all the upcoming events

Thanks for your time,
Ron McKee AJ7T

The President's Corner (February)

It's February and this is a busy month for the Club. We have many things to get ready for.

First is the Lost Dutchman Marathon on Sunday February 17th. We need to sign up on the MCECG.org website as soon as possible. If you have any problems with the website feel free to contact me. All you need to do is pick out a user name and a password. Then sign on and just click on the event you want to participate in. They can use all the help they can get. They are a very busy group of Hams.

Next will be the W7W Special Event Station at the Superstition Mountain Museum on Hwy 88 North of Apache Junction. Harold KD7VK is the chairman of the event and Judy K7JLF has already offered to help. They also could use all the help they can get. This event is usually held the last weekend in February.

I am trying to put in an order for Club shirts and jackets. So far I only have an order for about 5 items and Rainbow Grafixx considers a minimum order to be 13 items. I will be taking additional orders during the February meeting, so be ready with cash (jackets $44.00 and shirts $ 25.00). I will need the size you want, name and call sign, contact phone number, and of course the money.

As you can see the Club has many things happening in February. As a Club we need to setup and get these events covered. The Club has very little else happening until September when we get ready for elections and start preparing for the Hamfest.

I also would like to thank the outgoing 2007 officers and board for their year of service. Also an extra thanks for the officers and board that is in their 2nd year of service.
