Repeater work done on March 25, 2012 and some pictures

YouTube video on ToddFun.com is here!

A good-sized attendance was present, as the tower was tilted over and a new antenna placed at the top of the 60-foot structure, and the tower was raised and restored to service before noon.

Apache Sands Towing was very generous to loan us the use of one of their big tow trucks, and their driver donated his time.

We replaced the top 17 feet or so of the hardline with a coaxial cable, as Todd, KF7NBI shot YouTube video of the process.

The volunteers

Terry Ryan, KE7GRV was the chief technician as he sawed off the hardline about 2 feet below the top of the tower, thus eliminating a damaged spot in the hardline.  He then removed the N-type connector from the discarded piece and placed it upon the newly prepared and burnished end of the hardline.  Some additional polishing had to be done to get rid of some water stains on the shield conductor of the cable, as apparently some water got under the outer jacket from the damage.

Chris, KF7SEK prepares the tower to be connected to the tow cable

It was Steve Estes, KB7KWK, who got the loan of a tow truck from his employer, Apache Sands, a gasoline station and service facility at the corner of Sossaman and Main in east Mesa.  We thank Steve's boss and the men who volunteered their time to operate the truck, for their generosity, including the original driver who missed the scheduled arrival time when he overslept on his day off.

Chris, KF7SEK prepares the tower to be connected to the tow cable

It was Chris Kuklinski, KF7SEK, who climbed the tower and connected the tow truck cables at 20 feet up from the ground.  He later climbed again to disconnect the cables, then climbed a third time to snap some pictures from up there.

It was Dennis Baker, KA0/OBC, who attempted to grab a copy of the controller programming on his laptop.  While unsuccessful this time around, there will be some down-time when the repeater will be powered down, and only the controller running, when Dennis will be able to maybe grab the program again.

it was Gene Wilson, K8WQ, who served coffee and doughnuts out at the 147.12 repeater site Sunday morning, March 25.

It was Dan, N0/FPE, who last December prepared the new antenna with certain modifications and replacements of parts to stabilize the antenna over time.
