Often-Asked Questions
We have a few frequently-asked questions that Judy, K7JLF passed along to me for the 2008 Hamfest, that still apply in 2009. I will try to provide some relief here with their answers:
- Is it indoors?
We lease a classroom for VE Testing, possible seminars and ARCA Meeting. The Hamfest swap area is a large parking lot outdoors. - Is there shade? Are there tables?
Vendors largely provide for shade and tables. - How close are the restrooms?
Portable toilets are provided on the perimeter of the swap area, typically grouped at each end.

The Hamfest is located just north of U.S. 60 Exit 177, Dobson Road in southwest Mesa.
From Phoenix and points west
Take I-10 to southeast Phoenix, then exit to U.S. 60, Superstition Freeway. Go east through Tempe to exit 177, Dobson Road in Mesa. This exit comes just after the Loop 101 freeway exit ramp takes off, but before incoming Loop traffic merges with U.S. 60.

From Loop 101 North or South:
Take Loop 101 from Scottsdale or from Chandler to U.S. 60 Superstition Freeway eastbound. Take the first exit off of U.S. 60, Alma School Road, Exit 178, and make a U turn back westbound on the freeway.
Take the first exit, 177, Dobson Road. At the top of the ramp, turn right on Dobson and go a quarter mile north of the freeway. Make a right at the first traffic light onto the MCC campus and follow signs.
Talk-in
Talk-in is done on 147.12 MHz, with a Plus 600 kHz transmit offset and 162.2 Hz access tone. Talk-in is also available on UHF, on 449.60 in northeast Mesa and 449.20 in Phoenix, if links are active. The 449.20 repeater is linked via simplex, and requires a full drop of carrier from 449.60 or 147.12 to be accessible. UHF uses a -5 MHz offset and a 100 Hz tone access.
