W7ASC Apr 2010 ADAW
From The WB7TJD Wiki
The Q1 2010 CARL BOD meeting will be Saturday March 20th 9:30AM in ASC’s Boardroom “A.” We need to select officers, review possible changes to the W7ASC shack, the ASC main entrance remodeling and what the Az Science Center is planning on doing for upgrades. A lot! In discussion is an active computer projection system to better demonstrate Ham Radio to ASC visitors. Steve, WB4ZSC, is working on a system to project animated text, graphics, and motion data onto the Shack wall world map to illustrate communication modes used by amateur radio. This will allow us to have a dynamic, up-to-date, and varied presentation that will catch the attention of visitors while informing them of our work. Other plans for the Shack include installing a 60" LCD monitor, widening the Shack entrance, and moving the radio equipment to a more visible area instead of being hidden in the closet.
The Az Science Center remodeling is under way! John, N7JP, sent out an e-Mail Monday 3/8. As of this week the old main exit is closed and a new entrance from the ground level at the end of the plaza is now in place. Look for the signs directing you to the proper entrance. For those who use scooters or need to avoid stairs the 5th street entrance will be available. The 5th St. door will be open at 9:00AM and has elevator access to the 1st floor. The elevator on the east to the lunch rooms and board room area in the basement will be available for a while but won't be accessible when the workers start removing ramps and get into major demolition mode. Estimate that this will be in about 3 weeks. Volunteers needing to use the Handicapped entrance (no stairs) need to park at the west end of the Heritage Square parking lot and proceed to the 5th Street entrance at the north side of the building. Getting out of the Science Center can be a challenge as well. After wandering around for a while Friday I finally found the exit. I think the Science Center should do as PT Barnum did many years ago and put up signs saying “This Way to the Egress”.
Lots of changes are going on and we will try to have a few photos for the next ADAW. The Tech License class is underway at MCC with 14 students and no drop-outs as of the 4th class! A good sign.
Shack volunteers are reminded that they have to sign in on the W7ASC Ham Shack logbook for their hours to count. The logbook seems to have several missing entries! As usual we are still short of volunteers. Spread the word at your Ham Club. Call 480-961-1109 and volunteer now. We have a CARL PPT Presentation available (operators are standing by) that can be presented to your club.
