2012 Lost Dutchman Days W7W Special Event Feb 25
Celebrating the Legend of the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine
W7W Special Events Station is slated to be out at the Superstition Mountain Museum on Saturday, February 25, 2012, to celebrate Lost Dutchman Days on the Arizona Centennial month of February.
The Superstition Amateur Radio Club will be sharing the museum with an impersonation of Arizona Governor Hunt, who will be speaking to a large crowd out in the front of the museum, along with several bands opening up with some music. That will be part of the Arizona Centennial celebrations that will be going on this February. We will have our station operating behind the museum, among the outdoor exhibits.
Speaking of the bands opening up, there is an X CLASS FLARE! coming off the sun, as I write this page, according to the Solar Activity monitor on the top of the page. The sun has been rockin' and a'rollin' here of late, with some wide open band conditions. It ought to really be a fantastic year for contacts on HF.
Operating Schedule for W7W on Feb 25
The museum is open every day from 9 AM until 4 PM. We will plan to be on the air between those hours on 10, 15 and 17 meters.
It will be dependent on rigs and antennas that are available.
10 meters
Look for us on 28.470, 28.445 or 28.350, each plus-or-minus 10 kHz SSB. To aid in finding you in the log, we will issue a serial number prefaced with A. 75th QSO would be A75
15 meters
Look for us on 21.435, 21.380 or 21.335, each plus-or-minus 10 kHz. To aid in finding you in the log, we will issue a serial number prefaced with B. 75th QSO would be B75
17 meters
Look for us anywhere between 18.112 and 18.163 MHz SSB. To aid in finding you in the log, we will issue a serial number prefaced with C. 75th QSO would be C75
Possible 20 meters
We may be on 14.325, 14.265 or 14.240, plus-or-minus 10 kHz if conditions on higher bands are poor. To aid in finding you in the log, we will issue a serial number prefaced with D. 75th QSO would be D75
I have listed 3 frequencies on each of 10 and 15 (and possible 20) meter bands. We will attempt to be on the listed frequency, or within 10 kHz of it, and failing that, we will expand to within 15 kHz.
Operating a Special Events Station is fun, especially in a group setting, where new operators who don't have good HF stations at home, or have no HF gear yet, can participate. Don't have a General license yet? No fret, we can set something up on 10 meters between 28.300 and 28.500 MHz upper sideband, and your Technician license is all you need. Not only that, you can speak as a third party under the supervision of a higher-class-licensed control operator on bands that you don't directly have privileges on. Our only concern here is if we make contact with foreign stations, we have to only let the properly-licensed control operator use the microphone if there is no third-party agreement between our two countries.
There are some special 1x1 call sign station identification procedures and other rules that we must follow.
Log sheets will be available in PDF for our use posted shortly.
2011 W7W Lost Dutchman Days
The W7W QSL card is available for Lost Dutchman Days 2011 contacts from last February.
The Superstition Amateur Radio Club celebrated Lost Dutchman Days under the banner of W7W from February 26 to February 27, 2011. We made over 500 QSO's during the two days.
QSL Information
f you worked our Special Event Station, we have a special QSL card awaiting you. To claim yours, please send us your QSL card, and please include the contact number we issued during the QSO. Do not send us a self-addressed envelope. Instead:
We need a return address label only, and a First Class postage stamp. Our QSL card is too big to fit the standard envelope size, so we will affix your label and stamp to an envelope that we provide!
Please use the following address for QSLs for the 2011 Lost Dutchman Days W7W event:

Lost Dutchman Days Special Event Station W7W Feb 28, 2010 QSL Info and Pictures
Terry, NK7T posted some pictures our way for use on the site. They could just as easily be posted in the Club Photos page, but I thought people looking for QSL info might appreciate them as well.
On Sunday, February 28, 2010, the club set up at the Superstition Mountain Museum and ran the annual Lost Dutchman Days special event station, though it was a bit wet and the museum event was sparsely attended.
This year, Steve, KY7W headed up the operation.
